Good hair day

I was rather pleased at the way my hair came out on Saturday. For once, I got the fringe to stand up a bit, just like in the pictures of old movie stars...

And then I went and covered it all up with a hat. I don't think I've showed this vintage hat before, even though I've had it for quite some time. It's made from a really warm and soft and wintry material, but only covers a small part of the head, so it's a bit tricky to know when to wear it. On Saturday I wore it tho the antiques and vintage fair/market held in Kokkola, and got a few nice comments about it...

The fair had very little vintage, only two sellers who sold vintage clothing and no retro furniture whatsoever (which is what I was looking for). But among all the antique porcelain, glassware, books etc I did find something with a fifties style to it. It is quite possibly the first piece of art I have ever bought, it's about 30 cm high and it looks like it could be made of teak...And I absolutely love it and pretty much go "Oh" every time I see it;

How was your weekend?

Weekend!

After a week of trying to adjust to it getting dark around 5 and not 6, Mr Kitten and I are going dancing to try and cheer ourselves up. The picture below has nothing to do with dancing, I just wanted to show off my new hat.

Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend!

Summer is here!

Check out my latest finished sewing project;

(=The roof)

Mr Kitten and I spent the weekend in Kalajoki, where there is a long and lovely sandy beach, a camping area and a place to go dancing in the evening. My dancing outfit looked like this;

Minus the hair flower, I couldn't get it to sit quite right. It's just wonderful to be able to walk outside like this and not be cold. The next day I wore the same dress along with my red high heels to my uncles 60th birthday party. Speaking of birthdays, mine wasn't too long ago either, we spent some time at the beach and I wore my bright red bangle for the first time, with a matching red dress to go with it;

Another year older. I hope you've all had a lovely weekend and that the weather where you are is a lovely as it is here.

Weekend

I think I might attend this little festival on saturday. Anybody else going?

Last weekend was pretty nice, we did go dancing and slept in the caravan, where the heating worked just fine I might add! Yesterday was also dancing, we learned the basics of the waltz. Quite fun although I did have some trouble to begin with...Hope everyone is having a nice weekend whatever you are doing!

And more shoes

Oh dear, I've ordered yet another pair of shoes, all because Ellos sent me a 50% off cupon. So I thought I'd have a look through their selection, and the only products I liked were shoes. And why not get myself a good quality pair of shoes - half price? 89,90 € was the normal price but I'll only have to pay about 47 € with shipping. Not bad. I plan to use these as my dancing shoes, if the fit me...Hush puppies is the make.

Speaking of dancing, Mr. Kitten managed to get the heating working in the RV, so we went dancing to a place about 100 km away from here, and then slept in the RV. Luxury I tell you, not having to drive all the way home after the dance. However, I did kind of wake up in the middle of the night thinking the heating was off and that I was freezing and trapped in my sleeping bag and so on, until I woke up enough to realize everything was fine and I had been imagining things...

What I wore

Today I've been wearing this (minus the beret, as I see no point in wearing a hat indoors).

And when I visited my parents during the weekend I wore this outfit;

The jacket is new, from H&M and I really like it. It's a bit short however, especially with low cut jeans. Not a fan of getting a cold midriff, I could really use some high waisted trousers...

New hats

Why do I bother correcting the colours in my images in photoshop when they look different in blogger anyway? Oh, well, ignoring the dark and dusty colours and check out my new hats!

These two only cost me 3 euros together. The second one is dark blue with a flower thingy on the side - barely visible in this image. Sigh.

In a moment I'm off for work and tomorrow, me and my guy are going to Vaasa to do some shopping and to see my brother perform in Vaude! Have a lovely weekend!

Winterkitten

So I finally got round to transferring some pictures to my computer, so, let me introduce to you, my new red shoes! Funnily enough, they don't even look red in this picture, but trust me, they are about the same colour as the top I'm wearing...These are the red version of the black hushpuppies shoes I blogged about a while back. The gray ones I have yet to photograph.

I really haven't had much time to go thrifting lately, but I was lucky enough to find a new charity shop close to my new home, and here's what I got at my first visit;

Two pairs of vintage gloves and a nice belt-the type I've actually been on the lookout for!

And finally a couple of shots of me in the slopes of Iso-Syöte, Lapland. I finally found myself a nice sporty and practical jacket so that I can throw away the ugly 3 sizes too big hand-me-downs I've been using the last couple of years. It's amazing how much more fun it was to be outside when I was wearing something I felt good in.

Secret project revealed

So here what I was working on last week, I modified the pattern for this dress which fits me really well but has this annoying cut that makes my shoulder look miles wide.
I took this massive old sweater that was a hand me down from my aunt who was young when this stuff was in fashion. (Click for a larger image) It's been in my closet for years waiting for some attention, and now the time was here.

I undid the seams and cut accordingly to the pattern everywhere but the bust area.

I used the sleves for the bust-area, folded in two, and came up with this really versatile upper part (which is why I was so excited).

The dress actually feels really comfy and quite warm on the bits it covers, and I think it will be very useful as it is so versatile. I may also use the same idea and make a few more in different colours and patterns. Someday. This is how the finished product looks, as worn to the dance in Vuokatti at the weekend:

The weekend was absolutely fabulous by the way, the spa was great, we managed to visit six (!) different types of saunas, turkish, steam, finnish, smoke and more. Of course we did some swimming too, and lying around in different bubble pools etc. And in the evening was the dance thingy where we actually made a bit of progress with our dancing skills, still a long way to go though, hah.

Sunday we went skiing, the ski tunnel closed for maintenance just as we got there, but luckily there was a few km of outdoor track as well. It was quite fun, I haven't gone skiing in years, kinda hard if you live in the south of england for a couple of years...It wasn't all joy though, my feet hurt in every uphill because of the poor technique I must have been using. Oh well. Maybe it had something to do with several hours of dancing in high heeled boots the night before?

Another great weekend

Last friday was the preview of the musical "Oliver!" in which my 15 year old brother has one of the leading roles. I was a bit nervous but he did so well, I was really impressed. He sang, danced and acted like he'd never done anything else.

On saturday me and my bf went to my parents house to change the tires on my car. It was about time, as it had snowed quite a bit on friday. On our way back we dropped of my actor brother for his premiere (he's the one in the top hat, image from KUF) and then headed on to prepare for our evening plans, the dance gala!

We had so much fun, although we don't actually know the steps (for foxtrot) we made up our own and managed to get around the floor without crushing each others feet or anyone elses for that matter. It was great, I usually end up feeling kinda depressed and out of place every time I go out to clubs or events such as this one, (or my works x-mas party) but this time was different. I'm starting to believe that I could go anywhere with my boyfriend and enjoy it, because he's there. I'm so glad we ended up together!

This weekend was also what many call Halloween, but personally I'm a bit bothered that the rest of the world want to copy the americans and cannot stick to our own traditions. Because we do have our own holiday on the 31st of october, the all saint day, when the tradition has been to visit loved ones and relatives graves and light candles on them. But nope, I guess the younger people who perhaps dont have any graves to visit prefer to use any excuse to party...

About five years ago I did however go to a Halloween party, here pictured with my roomate at the time, who was pretty hot in that bin-liner...Wow, crazy how fast time passes. I cannot believe it 's been five years. Mad.

Kitten goes international

For a while now I've been thinking about changing my blogging language to English. So I'm using the beginning of a new month as an excuse. I rarely use my english skills anymore, living back in Finland again, so maybe this will be a way to keep my English going.

The weekend meant the end of summer-cottage season in my area, so me and my boyfriend visited the Venetziad-festival in Kokkola. Venetziad is the festival of fire, air and water or something, so there was fire dancers and fireworks and live music and a samba dancing show.

My boyfriend also surprised me with some lovely flowers as we've been together for 6 months tomorrow. Now I'm wondering wether I need to get him somehing too...
On sunday we went for a little shopping trip and I ended up bying myself another pair of shoes. But "proper" ones this time - trecking boots! Waterproof and so on, only 20 € due to them being last season.
And today I had a job interview which went pretty well, on wednesday I'll find out exactly how well... Afterwards I went to visit a friend of mine who is about 4 moths pregnant. She and her partner and their 2 year old daughter have recently moved into their newly built house and the place was really nice. Kinda makes me wanna do the whole family and house thing but, why rush? Besides 6 months is such a short time, I want to get to know this guy I'm dating a bit better before jumping ahead of things. But now I need to go to bed...
