Would you ever consider going out with a table mat on your head?

Funny how I blog so much less the weeks Mr Kitten and I work similar hours, as in happen to be home at the same time...Anyone else get that? There's no time to read other people's blogs and keep one up myself unless I got the flat to myself, and there's enough light to take photos, and I have something to take photos of etc. I just don't get how some people are able to post every single day?! Don't these people have work, families and so on? Maybe I'm just a slow blogger...

Anyway, since it's been a while since the energy to take photos has occurred on a sunny day with no work, I'll show some older photos. Here for example, is a table mat turned hat and a pair of cute leopard-gloves that I don't think I've shown before.

Both from Citymarket. I made the "hat" by wetting the middle part of it in sugar and water, and then shaping it between two bowls until the water had evaporated. The material seems to be some kind of plastic, (a natural material would probably get a stronger/better shape) so I 'm actually surprised it changed shape at all! Once dry, and stiffened by the sugar, I just attached an elastic band to keep it on my head and voilá;

I am considering making the brim a bit smaller though, to better suit my small head. I'll also add some flowers or something, depending on occasion and whether or not I'll ever go out with a table mat on my head...A tip for others who wear hats, is to get those candle decoration thingies (ljus-manchett in swedish) and use the plastic flowers from those to vary your hats, or match the hat with the colours of the rest of the outfit. Around here, the decorations only cost 10-50 cents at the flea-markets, so it's a really cheap way to get hold of hobby material. Have you ever tried your hand a hat-making?

Wedding no. 2

Last Saturday one of my close friends got married.

My outfit looked like this; all second hand or self made.

The jacket is part of a 50's set (dress + matching jacket) that I found in a charity shop in Pori.

The hat is the same base that what I wore to the previous wedding, only with a white "cover" with little roses and some turtle doves which aren't very visible in the picture but anyway.

I really liked the cake topper, it's very 50's I think, and I'd like to wear something similar in style if/when I get married...

Keep packing

Not much time for blogging this week and the next, as the move keeps getting closer. Most of my stuff is now in boxes and the flat is looking pretty bare. Oh well. On monday I go get our keys...and then the drivin back and forth starts. I plan to have moved my plants and a few bags of stuff before the furniture finally goes next weekend. While I'm busy moving I'll leave you with a few screenshots from the film "How to marry a millionaire" so you can check out all the fur, hats, gloves and so on they're wearing. Furry stuff

I did another attempt at pin-curling this weekend, and it turned out quite okay.

After using more hairspray on the curls than ever before in my life, I wore my leopard patterned ear muffs and headed into town...

And found a gorgeous leopard patterned scarf! Obsessed? Who?

I also found a lovely coat in one charity shop, but at the moment it's under a few heavy books as I'm trying to get out some stubborn creases...

This gray cardigan that I also bought is actually a size 128. Kids size. But do I care? Of course not when it looks this good!


And here's my latest creation, a fur stole! It's lovely and warm and soft and furry...Practical and glamorous all in one!

Today me and my man signed the contract for the flat we saw earlier. I'm soo exited, I even packed the first box of stuff for the move! Only a couple of weeks of only seeing each other on weekends to go...

Kitten gets fascinated

Check out the latest addition to my wardrobe. Man this thing was difficult to photograph, or perhaps the problem was getting it to sit right on my head...

Anyway, it was great fun to make as I sewed it mostly by hand and because it didn't take too long. It's basically a piece og thick felt, some netting and three satin roses. And a hair clip.


If I make another one I'll probably use a round base and make it so that the netting doesn't really cover my face, as it was really difficult to get it straigth and mostly just made my already small chin even smaller. Trial and error baby. It looks really pretty when not on me though. I think I'll keep it on my Jbl creature, so that I can still enjoy it. From a safe distance.

Hopefully my next project will turn out better, I bought some fake fur in a beautiful dark brown/mink colour. Now I need to figure out wether to make a stole or a more cape-like thing out of it. Hmm...


The glove in the picture is the one that turned out better out of the two I made recently. Made from the same fabric as the roses on the fascinator btw. Happy fastlagstisdag!

Shopaholic warning

I must have spent almost 60 euros on clothes in the last week or so. It's not like me. A small consolation is that most if it was spent on second hand stuff where some of the money actually goes to charity...But today I wasn't gonna do any shopping. Just check out the sale and lack of shoes in my size in "Shoe stop". And would you believe it, they actually have a few pairs in size 35. But none i liked enough to spend 40-60 euro or more. But I will return...

After the quick shoe shop visit I had to see what was left of the sales...and ended up buying a very useful strapless bra and these supercute panties;

Also bought the flower pin for a mere 2 euros. But back to my crazy shopping spree. Last friday there was a sale at a charity shop in town that I hadn't been to before, so naturally, I had to go. Ehem. But I'm really glad I did, as I only spent 5 euros for about 10 items and found these;

Four pairs of vintage gloves!! After I got desperate enough to make my own, I go and find these for the ridiculous price of 50 cents each. Madness. But I'm pleased.

Saturday I went on a flea market tour in the town where my boyfriend lives ,while he was out to play tennis. This is when the madness started, as I found myself buying items in colours previously unseen in my wardrobe. These linen trousers for example. I love linen. Just didn't expect to wear anything orange...

The second crazy item was in pink, another colour I never wear normally. But how could I resist? I mean, look how cool it looks, teamed with my first attempt at a pill box hat, black gloves, a good skirt and nice shoes. I'd love to have a few more items that would make me feel this glamorous. Still need to work on that hat though.

My leopard print obsession continues. This bag cost me a fiver in the sales. The benefit - or curse? - of working in a supermarket is seeing all the sales stuff day after day after day...

I've got plenty more stuff to show from my out of control shopping spree, but this will have to do for now. Hope I've been able to spread some inspiration :)

Who needs H&M when you've got thrifting?

A few post down I'm craving a leopard top from h&m, and I mean craving like this kitten rarely does. But I contained myself and went to a fleamarket instead. And voilà! Check out what I found for € 2,50! I think I may survive without the h&m version now, even though it has more of a vintage feel to it. Although, if it turns up in the sales who knows...

I've been sewing a lot lately. Making up my own patterns and fiddling around with tiny details. When I thought the satin gloves in the shop were to expensive I made my own, and what a difference they can make to an outfit! I don't think this is the last time these babies turn up here.

I also could not get this image out of my head. Do you spot it? The muff. I had one that I played with when I was a kid, from gradma's attic it was, and since I saw this pic I wanted to find it. But no luck so far, so I had to make one of those as well.

Worn here with vintage hat, fur collar and mum's old coat. But, I think the muff is a bit too wide, so I might take it in a little, when I have time.

H&M wishlist

I just paid for a remote for my new camera, so in a few days I'll be able to do proper outfit shots and show you all my latest purchases that might be of interest.

Yesterday I also spotted these on Syster Retro and got a bit crazy. I then spent several hours working on a pattern to make my own gloves and I will continue working on that pattern tonight. I have a thing about making stuff myself, especially if I can't find or afford whatever it is I need. Ah, if shoemaking wasn't so tricky I would have started making my own shoes aswell...
