Playing pinup and going no-poo

What do you think readers? Should I quit my job at the supermarket and start modeling?

Erh, maybe not, I can remember the photographer being amazed at how bad I was at keeping my eyes open for my graduation pics...I guess I'm just really flash sensitive.

Anyway, last week after complaining I wasn't having any luck at the flea-markets, I went to a couple I haven't been to for a while and came home with a bag full of stuff! Among other, this cute bathing/gymnastics suit. The rest will be in the next post...

On a different note, today it has been 2 months since I last used shampoo. Yes, I've been bitten by the no-poo bug. For the first four weeks or so my hair was pretty gross, but then it changed, and lately I've only washed it once or twice a week. Hold on, wash-but not with shampoo? Nope. At first I tried the conditioner only (CO) method, but I'm not sure if it worked or not, as my hair wasn't used to no shampoo and was still over producing oils. Plus I really didn't like the to me, strong smell of the conditioner (I used erittäin hieno suomalainen hiushoito).

So I switched to using baking soda and rinsing with a vinegar and water mix. Sometimes I mix in a bit of honey with the baking soda as well. My goal is to eventually wash with water only (WO) as my parents and at least one of my brothers have been doing for the last year, and their hair looks great! But they all have short hair...

To be honest, my hair doesn't feel or look that different, but then I've always had pretty good hair as I use so little product (and very seldom) and usually let it air dry anyway. The best thing about my new method though, is that I don't have to wash it every two days anymore. This is the first time I've done pin-curls since I stopped with the shampoo, and I'm very interested in seeing how long they will last. I will be pinning them up again over night to hopefully make them last longer.

Sound interesting? Google "no-poo" and you'll find loads of links...

And to finish, here's a list of reason to why I wanted to try this;

-I'm lazy. I cannot be bothered to re-set my hair every two days, so why not try a method that would allow me to keep it set for longer? Don't know if it will work yet though, testing in progress!
-My parents and brother are doing it, and they only use water and it still looks great. I should have the same genes, right?
-I have atopic skin, which means I have dry skin and have to keep using creme to keep my rash at bay. My scalp was getting really dry and itchy, and shampoo apparently dries out both skin and hair. My scalp feels better now.
-I got tired of buying and trying new brands of shampoo all the time, as nothing seemed to be quite right for me, my hair and my scalp. And because of my dry scalp, I though I might have dandruff, so I used dandruff shampoo (very bad for nature). No dandruff now...
-The environment is probably happier with less shampoo in it, and fewer plastic shampoo bottles.
-I'm not very big on consuming. Especially when it comes to products/chemicals we don't necessarily need. What we do need, I try to get the eco-friendly version of. Baking soda in a paper carton with a small plastic lid means less waste than a bunch of plastic bottles right?

Still breathing

It's amaxing how fast time goes when you keep busy! In the last few weeks I have moved house, gone for a holiday to snowy lapland and studied hard for this little test I had to do for work. But now that's all done, finally time to breathe! Moving surely made me realize how much unnecessary clothes I own, perhaps I'll do a bit of a clean-out during easter...Anyway, I'm back to blogging, hope everyone is doing well!

Happy Holidays!

Whatever you may celebrate, I hope you have a nice break from work/study or whatever keeps you busy. I'll be at work for 5 hours tomorrow and then head off to see family and spend my christmas with the ones close to me. Perhaps I'll wear my hair like this?

If it's not too cold I'll also wear my new knitted gloves, but I doubt I'll wear the stocking I found at a fleamarket a while back, they were a bit too big and long.

By the way, I won a digital SLR in an online action last week for roughly 240 €. It should have been posted to me this morning, I'm very excited and I hope I get it before the trip to milan! I leave you now with a christmassy pin-up and wish everyone a merry christmas and a happy new year!

Moving

It is done. All my stuff is here at the new place and the keys to the old place are handed in and so on. I've been busy having a terrible cold and fixing up my new living quarters. It's getting there, slowly. So much stuff that I still need to get though, such as a few more lamps and rugs. But I like it here. It's starting to look pretty cozy.

My old flat was partly decorated the way my boyfriend at the time wanted it, but after we broke up I did change a few things, but still not enough to really make it feel completely mine. This time around I'm living on my own and I get to decide everything. However my bf did like how the place looks now so much that he's started to get ideas about moving in together! When we get there though it'll have to be a place a bit bigger than this...

This is how my old living room used to look like:

Right, now I need to prepare for work, I'm working evenings both this week and the next. Oh, well, at least I can sleep longer in the mornings.

Busy bee

Wow. Time goes so fast, I cannot believe that I'm gonna be moving this upcoming weekend! I've already worked a week at my new job and liked it so far, so I'm pleased. At the moment I am filling boxes and boxes with stuff - where did all of these thing come from?! It's not like when I moved as a student, no, now I've got furniture, lamps, rugs and curtains and so on.

During the last five years I've moved at least six times, to Karis, Åland, England, (3-4 different places) Finland and now within Finland again. Strangely enough this is the first time I get to decide everything and decorate according to how I want it. I'm getting more and more exited. But now I should really get back to packing. Tomorrow my internet moves - before I do, how will I manage a day without it? Anyway, packing...

New job - old shoes

So today was the day. Arrived on time, barely, met some people, did some work, learned some stuff on the computer and in a swoosh my first day at my new job was over. It went really fast and yes, I did enjoy it. I think I'm gonna be quite happy working in a shop-environment again.

These shoes are a find that my god-mother made years back, and lended me to wear at different old-fashion markets. She hasn't asked for them back yet...But considering the small size of these shoes, there's not really anybody in her famliy who'd be able to wear them anyway. I'm not complaining!

I seem to have phases of downloading loads of inspirational images from the internet. A couple of months back it was illustrations from vintage patterns, now it's pin-ups, such as this one:

Beautifully painted, lovely colours, fantastic light and so on. And the hair and clothes! Ah, the glamour! In some ways being born a few decades earlier would have been pretty awesome, but in other ways we have come so far when it comes to womens rights etc that I don't mind living now either. Just can't have it all.

Freedom!

Today was my last day working as a cleaner. The job was tough, sweeping floors for 4-5 hours is a pretty good work-out, but it is also pretty straining for your shoulders and arms, your back and your knees, all areas where problems have started to appear lately...So tomorrow morning I'm treating myself to a massage!

Although I didn't care too much for the job itself I did quite like the atmosphere and the people who I cleaned around. But I do wonder what it says about me that the people I got along with the best were 36+ aged males...? Ok, so there weren't many women working there either but still. This is how lovely I looked:
But no more! From now on I'll be cleaning dressed like this:

Or something along those lines...So now I've got two days off before I start my new job. I'm getting a bit nervous for it but I should be fine - after a few weeks or so. I hope. But I'm sure it'll be a whole lot better than cleaning toilets.
